I'm totally in favour of speed limits to control traffic risks. But speed is not the only factor affecting risk. Weather conditions, visibility, traffic density etc. also contribute to it.

If we want to control the risk and at the same time to contribute to the smooth flow of traffic, the speed limits should change depending on those other factors.

I propose to change the current traffic signs for digital signs centrally controled by the traffic police.

Traffic signs are automatically controlled, even if its centrally controlled then it doesn't going to change the flow of traffic effectively or will matter other factors. It mostly depends over drivers to follow the rule and how they drive. What if somebody talking on mobile and cross the digital sign or ignore it totally? Its nice to see birds do not collide in any speed. Cars need to be intelligent to detect things. There are research going on computer controlled cars. Which can sense the distance, weather, fuel etc. GPS enabled cars can guide you over traffic and destinations. In future, cars will maintain not only distance but will interact with other cars. Hands free driving cars will take you to your destination, just you have to tell your car about your destination or nearby shop or restaurant. Computer display on windscreen will manage things, it will connect to internet, ipods, your home computer etc. Even black box is planned (as you have in aeroplanes) to keep track of all activities done by driver while driving eg. indications, speeding etc.	Report Abuse
