This idea is about how we can increase the use of pen drive, potentially. Nearly all of us have one. And we have been using it for data storage in many ways. Whether for storing important (secret) files or music, movies, apps, games, etc. Few people would be using it for Internet also.

What I suggest is that the manufacturer companies should provide with the pen drive itself, a set of basic applications which may include browsers, antivirus, antispyware, small games, other security and utility apps and the like, of course in their portable version. Also, care should be taken that it does not consume more than 15% of the total space available in the pen drive. So it can be rightly said that this proposal is better suited to pen drives with 4 GB or more space. Now surfing (including social networking) the big WWW anytime anywhere is very easily with this pen drive.

Let me explain the utility of such pen drive. Lets assume that you have a 4 GB pen drive and it comes equipped with following apps in their portable version (with expected space used):
1. Firefox - 50 MB
2. Norton antivirus- 100 MB
3. App for pen drive protection - 1 MB
4. KMPlayer media player - 50 MB
5. Small games - 100 MB
6. Other useful apps - 100 MB

These 5 items mentioned above make it to around 400 MB which is around 10% for 4 GB pen drive and around 5% and 2.5% for a 8 GB and 16 GB pen drive respectively.

Now think of case where you want to go somewhere and carrying your Netbook or Laptop is not a good option or you just want to avoid it. You have a pen drive, store all your browsers data including bookmarks, passwords, add-ons, etc in the portable browser inside the pen drive. Now wherever you go you just need a cybercafe, if there are no friends around with a PC or laptop. Plug it and surf with the same convenience since all your bookmarks, passwords, add-ons, browsing history, etc are readily available wherever you go.

It can be very handy in office or any place of work, since storing personal data on the office PC is a not a good option. It can help you in colleges where you can use it on a friend's laptop or at the computer library. All you carry at each place is just a small pen drive with all your necessary personal data.

Yes, there is a problem that you might not get any friend or relative's PC for using it but Cyber Cafés are always their to cheer upon.

There is one more thing that I would like to put up. We have seen the recent spurge in 3G broadband modems with the size of pen drives and many companies are providing such modems inbuilt in pen drive with space of 2 GB or maybe more. Storage in modem cum pen drive (MCPD) should be increased to 4 GB and more and MCPDs can come equipped with the programs mentioned above. And we can call this product Modem cum NetDrive (MCND). So problem with internet connection is also solved.

Now go to any town or metro city with all your personal data and internet connection with you.
So you can avoid carrying your Laptop or Netbook unless it is imperative.

Moreover, you can also create such a customized NetDrive at home by putting in the above mentioned portable apps.
