With today's economy leaving many familes and individuals questioning the stablility of their jobs, a way to find a few quick, easy bucks is more than welcome. Snippets is much like a job website -- but it's specialized to focus on no contract, no commitment, one time jobs or very low-hour part time/seasonal jobs that can be performed from one hour, to a couple of days, and provides extra income fast with no strings attached for when times are tough. This benefits families before the holidays, individuals who want some extra cash, people trying to break out of living paycheck-to-paycheck, and it helps buisnesses as well.
Some buisnesses are running on skeleton crews constantly to avoid bankruptcy, especially local buisnesses and services. Snippets gives them an opportunity to find a quick employee whom they don't have to commit anything but one day's work and pay. To promote good behavoir on both ends of the deal, Snippets will have a rating system much like auction websites. Employers have a profile and recieve a rating of 1~5 'Snips' and a simple comment for each job. Employees recieve the same rating from the employers.
Snippets also provides an organized way to find the kind of work that is right for the employee thanks to a category system that breaks down what jobs are offered by- large comapanies, small local buisnesses, individuals, families (for example, a couple is looking for someone to come mow the lawn for two months since both have recieved increased work hours and can no longer keep up with it themselves). From there, jobs are broken down by duration. They can range from a timeframe of one hour, to one day, to a few days, to a week, so on and so forth.
I can personally name a few situations in which I would benefit from Snippets. I am looking for someone who can come repair a broken leg on a pool table. The job would take one to two days, and I will pay $75 upon the job being completed successfully. I get my pool table fixed, and the handyman who found work through Snippets gets to do a quick job and make some extra money. Who knows -- he could work at an office full time and simply be handy around the house! On the flipside, I'm a student who happens to be great at interior painting, web design, and I am a traditional and digital artist, and I have worked with animals for 5 years.. The list goes on. I could utilize any of these skills with a quick job from Snippets. For example, perhaps someone is looking for a dog walker for two days a week, over the next two weeks, while they're out of town. Or, a small buisness is looking to have a website designed and needs it to fit into their budget. I get money, I get to choose the job and hours that fit me best, make a few extra bucks, and the people posting their jobs get things taken care of!
The final area of concern here would be security. Snippets would require each person to verify that they are who they say they are, through email, phone, or postage, and they must verify that they are 18 years of age or older. From there, not only will people be rated, but when they look at a job for a larger company that may require a background check, they will be alerted of this when viewing the listing. Snippets will also have comprehensive guides on keeping you and your family safe while utilizing the Snippets service. Some of this advice may include things such as, don't agree to meet an employer or employee in any place other than a public area, establish phone contact with your employer or employee several times prior to the job, etc. Any employers who fail to pay their employee will be banned from Snippets, the ban time will vary depending on the value of the job.
At this point, I know what you're thinking. How is this different from the classifieds or Craigslist? Snippets cuts away the 'fat' found on these public forums -- I'm sure we are all familiar with the spam and junk that can clutter up every other classifieds site or publication out there. Snippets saves people and buisnesses time and money by focusing only on those fast, one time, no committment jobs. Any spam, jobs that require investment, or repeat offenders will be promptly removed from the site and placed onto a wall or page of shame so that users can be aware of what to look out for. Snippets will thus promote community development, vigilance on both sides of the deal, and allowing people to use their hobbies or skills on their own free time to supplement their income. After all, if someone approached you and said, "Hey, I'll pay you to read buisness proposals this month on your own time for some extra money" you wouldn't be able to say no!
