All of us give treats for our birthdays and all the lame damn reason in the world, and look at the amount of money that goes into drain, and what do we gain in the end? Some nice good time spent with our loved ones, yes! But is it okay for the money we spend?! We give gifts to people not knowing if they will like it or use it. There are better ways to appreciate/show people that we care and love.
The idea is to have a website and group of volunteers who would plant trees. On my birthday, my friend can pay money (say Rs.100/-) and choose a tree and choose the city where she wants it planted, and can dedicate it to me. The volunteers would then plant the tree and before the chosen date, will send a snap of the sapling and map attached to mark the location where it was planted with a name to the tree that my friend chose.
Organizations/Institutions/Schools can donate place to plant the trees and they would be listed and ranked on the basis of the number of trees they have given place for. This would create great awareness among people on the importance of planting trees.
By this we have common people, various organisations involved in tree planting.
