General IDEA
My idea is to provide a platform where students from low ranked college can attend the lectures of renowned institute/colleges professors.
I propose to create an educational portal that will host the Webcasts and Podcasts of the lectures delivered by the professors of renowned and popular universities/institutes, such as Harvard, Oxford, IIT (Indian institute of Technology) , IIM etc, on various subjects. The portal will have a global reach and therefore will cater to the needs of the audience scattered across different countries and states. For example, an IIT student will be able to attend the lecture of a Harvard professor and vice versa.
The portal will contain a timetable/calendar that will display the weekly or monthly schedules of the Webcasts/Podcasts. In addition, the timetable will allow the students to navigate to a particular Webcast/Podcast by selecting the University, Subject and Professor whose lecture they are seeking.
The students will need to subscribe to the Webcasts in advance, and the system will send the subscribers an SMS reminding them about the lecture. To view the Webcast the subscribers will need to log on to the portal by using their username and password.
The portal will also capture the subscribers’ experience of a particular lecture by allowing them to rate the corresponding Webcast or Podcast. The subscribers can rate the lecture, the teaching style etc. The ratings will help the students of other colleges and universities to ascertain the professor that best suits their requirements. In addition, the ratings will provide valuable feedbacks to the professors and help them refine their teaching methods and styles. The new professors will be able to learn through this from the experienced professors.
