(85329) Adsacks - Creating a unique advertising opportunity

Idea:
To use paper sack as a medium for advertising for the masses.

Idea Generation:
1. Need Gap:
There is cut-throat competition for space in the advertising world, thus per unit cost of advertisement space has become quite expensive. This makes it difficult for start ups and lower/middle level business firms to advertise or promote their businesses. Advertising in yellow pages or classifieds in newspapers is a cheaper option but people in India do not refer to them regularly, thereby, limiting the consumer reach. Thus they are not able to spread awareness about their product/service to a large population.

Not only this, excessive use of polythene bags is degrading our environment, worsening the situation day by day.

2. What we propose:
This situation creates a need for an innovative advertising platform which will be cost effective and must also have high consumer reach for local small/medium scale business firms. We present ‘AdSack’ which proposes to create unique advertising opportunities for lower and middle level business firms. AdSack is a unique Paper Bag which would be durable and has advertisement printed on its outer body. These businessmen can give their advertisement in these AdSacks and meet their basic marketing requirement.
And since we are practically trying to remove polythene from the market and further we plan to manufacture our paper sacks by recycling paper wastes thus we are tackling our environmental degradation at two levels and thus helping to create a green environment.

3. How effective this would be:
Small scale shopkeepers, local grocery stores, vegetable and fruit sellers and ‘thelawallas’ i.e. hawkers use polythene bags for distributing their products or commodities to customers. This gives us a wide consumer base to provide our product and influence.
We plan to distribute paper sacks to these local vendors, either free of cost or at a very negligible amount. We will generate revenue for our venture by making a unique advertising platform through these paper bags. We will be printing advertisements of startups and lower/middle level business firms on these paper bags which will make the paper sacks a combination of both a package solution and a cheap advertisement space.
The target segment of ‘AdSack’ would be mainly local medium to large shopkeepers, coaching institutions, start up firms and local restaurants.

It's a old idea, but still not implemented. For a future green environment and recycle advertise... is a good choice.

Thanks for giving your valuable input Bharti! Really appreciate this. All your concern are very true, but you have to understand this is not the full proposal. I hope that i may clear all your doubts in my full b-plan proposal (that is subjectto if I clear to next round ;) )

The concept seems to come right out of the mind of a B-school grad.

Concept falls on its face because of 3 reasons:

1) Your source of revenue is small retailers or medium retailers. They already have their own custom bags made at a similar cost to what it would cost you to manufacture your bags so why would they pay you to do the same.

Your argument here could be : we could have many ads on the same bags of different retailers/businesses

Well for that I would say how many businesses would be interested in their brand rubbing shoulders with competitors on this segment.

2) How many retailers or kirana merchants would use your bags (even if you are giving it for free) if it advertises their competitors.

3) Usually paper bags have a very small life so the no. of eyeballs seeing it is less as compared to a plastic bag. Maybe one of the reasons why you have hit upon the idea of paper sacks is because printing costs are less as compared to plastic bags. But understand you are setting up the ecofriendliness argument against the more no of eyeballs that a plastic bag would get.
Now for an ad proposal thats the killer........
