Zinc Air batteries ( non mercury versions) are used for a wide variety of purposes ( pls refer Wiki for a list as well as the chemical equations describing the workings).
Once the battery is consumed, the non-rechargeable battery comprises ZnO in nanostate. Nano ZnO is a well known anti-bacterial agent. I am wondering if this nano ZnO can be added to water sources to kill harmful bacteria. I need to do some more work to ensure that ZnO doesn't result in any harm to us.
In fact this nano ZnO can be used for various other experimental purposes.
For other batteries, we can have ZnO, MnO that can be used as a component for the fertilizers.
In fact when Zinc carbon batteries expire, the contents are Zinc oxide, Manganese oxide. This can be mixed with human urine and that will ensure the precipitation of Zinc Phosphate and Manganese phosphate which can be used for industrial purposes such as "PARKERIZING".
This idea will benefit Rural Communities to enable them to make a living.
